(semi-)precious Stones for Engagement Rings
22.05.12
Where gemstones in engagement rings are concerned, there is sometimes some confusion and even debate as to whether precious or semi-precious stones are the best choices. In the world of jewelry, and especially among renowned and reputable jewelers, many jewel experts do not really acknowledge the terms “precious” and “semi-precious” as the best basis for classifying any kind of gemstone, because each type is already brilliant and valuable in its own right. For the sake of technicality, however, semi-precious stones would include birthstones, while precious stones would include the more popular diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds.
It should not have to matter if the stone of your choice is “precious” or “semi-precious.” The label should not dictate the essence of the gemstone. What really matters is that the gemstone you choose for your engagement rings is one that holds great meaning for you as a couple about to be married.
