Bogus TradeMe user in jewellery theft plotA woman posed as a TradeMe buyer and went to the wrong address as a diversion, while her accomplice stole $60,000 worth of jewellery from a West Auckland home earlier this month. Police said a Riverhead homeowner arrived to find a car she didn't recognise parked in her driveway about 3pm on February 10. The woman claimed to be there to collect a Sharpei dog she had acquired through the online auction site. When told she had the wrong address, the bogus TradeMe buyer made a mobile phone call supposedly to verify the dog's location. Police believe she called to warn her accomplice, who was still inside the house. Her partner in crime fled from the property unseen. The victim later discovered valuable gems missing from her bedroom including a sapphire and opal ring, a three-stone diamond ring and a distinctive gold, chunky bracelet.
